“One of the biggest mistakes people can make when caring for their peace lily is positioning it near windows and air vents.”
According to the expert, exposing these houseplants to drafts is actually “detrimental” for the health of your peace lily.
David added: “If peace lilies are exposed to low temperatures for a long time, this will cause your peace lily to wilt or even die.
“Equally, you shouldn’t place your peace lily near any radiators or heating sources as this too can damage them.”
When it comes to any hot or cold sources in the home, keep this plant at a distance to keep them “healthy”.
It’s also incredibly important to try and maintain a consistent temperature in your home. According to David, this will help them “thrive”.
The flower expert continued: “A peace lily flower will usually last for a month, or even two, with the proper care, before changing to black or brown.
“Peace lilies will flower in spring and autumn, so don’t panic if you’re not seeing any growth during the winter months, as this is when they slow down.
“However, there are steps you can take during winter to ensure you see longer blooms when spring comes around.
“Flowering takes a lot of energy, so it’s key that during the growing season you feed your plant little and often. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every few weeks from April to October.”
During winter, reduce this to every four to six weeks to maintain your peace lily.
