A burger chain that people have called ‘better’ than McDonald’s plans to expand its presence in the UK after opening its first restaurant here last year. While the UK has welcomed a slew of new fast food chains from the US, one Dutch one is planning to open more restaurants in the UK. Fat Phill’s originated in Amsterdam and proved to be a massive hit in the Dutch capital. It has since been dubbed ‘better’ than other fast food chains like McDonald’s and KFC, and more are coming to the UK.
Fat Phill’s first opened in the UK in Clapham Junction, London, in late 2024. The fast food restaurant became famous for its smashburgers and loaded fries, among other offerings on its menu. Fat Phill’s opened its second London restaurant in Wood Green and has since promised more. At the recent Propel Franchisor Showcase, chief operating officer Natalie Van Der Laan revealed that five more UK openings are in the works.
Fat Phill’s already has 18 restaurants across the Netherlands, a considerable amount considering it only opened in 2019. There are also talks about the chain opening up in Belgium and Germany.
There are several items on Fat Phill’s menu that British customers might be excited to try. Among them is the Big Belly, which is a quadruple burger with crispy bacon.
There is also the Double Cheeseburger, the most well-known dish from the chain. Fat Phill’s also sells things like layered and loaded fries and buffalo chicken wings.
Fans have praised Fat Phill’s, with some saying it’s better than other popular fast food chains operating in the UK. One food blogger, known online as Big Row, wrote: “I can confidently say that this restaurant beats out McDonald’s and KFC any day of the week.”
Meanwhile, on Reddit user said: “Fat Phill’s Diner has the BEST burgers in Amsterdam. I’ve ordered from everywhere. Trust me on this one.”
Reviewing the London restaurant, one Google user said: “Fantastic food! We tried the meaty burger, the Nashville fried chicken burger, loaded fries and mozzarella sticks. All amazing. Deffo recommend checking this place out if you need some fried goodness!”
