I revived my stiff and scratchy towels in a single wash using 1 handy cupboard item

Towels can become hard for several reasons, including a buildup of soapy residue. Additionally, if you dry them outside, they can also become scratchy. This can result in an unpleasant drying experience after the shower, so I decided to try to find a hack which worked to revive my towels.

While there are several natural solutions available, including baking soda and white vinegar, I didn’t have these in my cleaning cupboard. Instead, I opted for soda crystals as well as skipping one laundry item.

Soda crystals are a form of sodium carbonate. They’re a strong alkali that helps dissolve and break down fatty deposits and detergent deposits, making them perfect for a number of household jobs.

A tablespoon of soda crystals added alongside your detergent helps to soften water and boost cleaning power.

This makes them perfect for cleaning towels, and the process can be done in several ways.

Towels can be soaked in a soda crystal water mixture before washing, or they can be placed in the drum or detergent drawer.

To clean my towels, I simply placed the towels in the washing machine drum along with a detergent pod.

I then poured a small scoop into the detergent drawer and skipped adding fabric softener.

Fabric softener can reduce absorbency in towels as it clogs the towel fibres, so it is best not to use it when washing towels.

I used to always use fabric softener on towels, but I tend to skip it these days or use a very small amount.

After the wash cycle, I let them dry naturally with my dehumidifier, and they were soft and fluffy, perfect for guests over the festive period.
