People are just realising what actually happens inside their air fryers while they’re cooking – and they’re absolutely baffled. Whether it’s reheating yesterday’s dinner, making frozen chips extra crispy, baking cakes or even tackling a proper Sunday roast, the air fryer is an essential appliance in many UK kitchens.
Available in all shapes and sizes, air fryers are frequently championed as a substitute for conventional ovens. What’s more, these devices slash cooking times while generally offering a healthier approach to preparing your favourite dishes. However, if you simply pop your food in and walk away, you might never have seen what happens inside the air fryer basket, reports the Mirror.
Most air fryers feature an automatic pause mechanism that momentarily stops the cooking cycle when you lift the lid to peek at your meal’s progress.
Yet Ninja’s Crispi model boasts a glass panel at the front, allowing users to witness their food being transformed before their very eyes.
TikTok user @aligroholski posted a video of the appliance in operation, captioning it: “That was super invasive.”
The clip, which has racked up millions of views, shows a spring roll floating and twirling as it cooks.
She wrote: “Watching the inside of an air fryer feels illegal.”
Air fryers operate using circulated air, with a heating component positioned near the top releasing warmth into the cooking compartment whilst a fan rapidly whips the hot air around the chamber. However, it seems many viewers were left baffled by the cooking process shown in Ali’s video.
One bemused commenter wrote: “No way my food is just in there breakdancing.”
Another said: “THEY SPIN?” while a third commented: “That’s why my damn cheese never stays on.”
Not everyone was swayed though, with one user adding: “That does not happen in mine cause when I open it the food is in the exact same position no matter how small the food is.”
