Waitrose customers have been urgently warned about a potentially dangerous drink they may have purchased. The Food Standards Agency has announced that Waitrose is pulling Waitrose No1 Deeside Mineral Water and Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water from shelves “because of the possible presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles”.

The recall affects 750ml bottles of Waitrose No1 Deeside Mineral Water with the following batch codes: NOV 2027 28. DEC 2027 01. DEC 2027 02. DEC 2027 10. DEC 2027 11. DEC 2027 16.

Items bearing best-before dates of November 2027 and December 2027 are part of the recall. Meanwhile, the Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water products are also sold in 750ml bottles.

The affected batch codes include: DEC 2027 01. DEC 2027 03. DEC 2027 12. DEC 2027 15. DEC 2027 25.

Bottles displaying best-before dates of December 2027 are impacted.

The FSA warned: “The product may contain glass which may cause injury and makes it unsafe to drink. Waitrose is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

“If you have bought any of the above products, do not drink it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information contact: Waitrose Customer Care 0800 188 884 Option 4.”

About product recalls and withdrawals

The FSA clarified: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
