Two designer fragrances have been  recalled as they pose a serious chemical risk to customers. The perfumes contain an ingredient that is banned due to the dangerous effect on health.

Hello by Lionel Richie and Hot by United Colours of Benetton Fragrances sold by Savers Health and Beauty are the products affected by the recall. The Office for Product Safety Standards warned they both contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA), which is prohibited from use in cosmetic products. The recall is for the fragrances that have been sold at Savers Health and Beauty.

BMHCA is listed on the ingredients label of the packaging for Hello and Hot fragrances. The OPSS warned: “The products present a serious chemical risk as they contain butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial), which is prohibited in cosmetic products.

“BMHCA may harm the reproductive system, may harm the health of the unborn child, and may cause skin sensitisation. The products do not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009.”

The warning over the products was first published last month, but now they have been recalled from customers. It means that if you have purchased these items, you should return them to Savers Heath and Beauty for a refund.

The OPSS explained: “Customers should return any of the above products purchased at a Savers store to the place of purchase, where they will be issued a full refund.

“Only products purchased in Savers Health and Beauty stores with the barcodes listed are affected by this recall. If you are unsure if you have one of the above products, please contact Savers Health and Beauty on help@savers.co.uk.”
