We can repair our lawns using winter grass seed. The lawn can be repaired and thickened up ready for springtime.
The cold weather can make us think all lawn care has to wait until springtime. However, repair work can be done during milder winter temperatures getting the lawn ahead. The bare and thin patches in the lawn can be repaired by creating lots of little holes in the soil and then sowing winter grass seed into the patch. The seed will fall into the holes and lay on the surface stuck the soil.
This contact will be enough for the seed to germinate over the coming weeks when temperatures are consistently over 5C.
The winter grass seed is specifically designed to germinate in temperatures of 5C and over.
If sown in lower temperatures, the seed will sit dormant, ready to germinate once the temperatures rise.
If birds are an issue, then the seed can be covered with a quilt of lawn dressing, compost or topsoil.
