It’s no secret many of us will avoid cleaning until it absolutely has to be completed.
Whether it’s tackling the oven, or having to hoover and mop the floors, no one wants to spend their evenings or weekends scrubbing away for hours.
Now a self-confessed “cleaning nerd” has shared her 7 secrets she ensures will cut the amount of time you spend cleaning in half.
Kacie Stephens, who established her own business, The Big Clean Company, took to TikTok to explain why such chores take twice as long for non-professionals. “Are you tired of spending all day cleaning your home while professionals get it done in just a few hours?” she asked in a video.
To make life “smoother”, Kacie highlighted the importance of “dwell time”. This is the essential period in which cleaning products, particularly disinfectants must stay wet on a surface to effectively kill germs and avoid you having to repeat the process. “Contact times” for products are normally found on their labels.
“Clean smarter, not harder,” Kacie advised as her second tip. She elaborated: “I use a flat mop for walls and long-handle dusters for skirting boards – it’s easier on your body and it gets the job done faster.”
Next, Kacie suggested using fewer products. “One multi-purpose cleaner will save you time and money and prevent you from over-complicating your cleaning routine,” she said.
Kacie is also an advocate for working from top to bottom. “Use an S-shape while wiping – it’s a golden rule for cleaning as there will be no double-work and no missed spots,” she told her followers.
The expert went on to stress the importance of using the right tools. She explained: “A good squeegee, waffle cloth and scrubbing brushes will make everything easier and more efficient.”
Kacie continued: “Make sure you stick to cleaning one room at a time. It’s faster than bouncing from one room to the next.” However, she pointed out it’s important to clean the windows and floors in one go.
She closed by highlighting the role of your focus. “Gather your supplies, set a timer and focus,” she instructed.
“Turn off your phone, stop scrolling and just knock it out – you will be amazed by how fast you can clean when you treat it like your paid job and you’re not distracted.”
Kacie promised: “With these tips, cleaning can become a quicker and more enjoyable task!”
