You could be sitting on hundreds of pounds without realising it, as collectors are on the hunt for rare DVDs that have become impossible to find since streaming took over. Now, experts are urging Brits to have a look in their homes for any gems that could put some extra cash in their pockets.
Research from eBay shows that listings for older DVDs and box sets have skyrocketed over the last year, with some titles even selling for 10 or 20 times their original price. With the festive season among us, it is the perfect time to do some decluttering and have a look at what you might have.
Scott Evans, storage expert from Pink Storage, said: “Before you send old DVDs to the charity shop or the tip, take a look at what you have. Some of the titles people think are worthless are now selling for hundreds of pounds to collectors.
“People are realising that streaming services don’t keep films forever, and with a lot of classics disappearing from these platforms, many collectors want a physical version they can keep forever.”
Certain editions have been identified as key ones to look out for. Disney, Doctor Who, and Star Trek are among the most sought-after items, fetching the highest prices online.
The Real Ghostbusters Complete Collection is another one to look out for; those who already own the popular box set could easily sell it for a shocking £750.
DVDs that are unopened, have the original packaging, and are in good condition are often the ones that get you the highest prices. To find out which DVDs the expert has highlighted to be worth a lot of money, check the list below.
