LONDON (AP) — Google faces fresh antitrust scrutiny from European Union regulators, who opened an investigation Tuesday into the company’s use of online content for its artificial intelligence models and services. The flurry of regulatory flexing by Brussels that has targeted Big Tech risks antagonizing President Donald Trump’s administration, though EU officials denied they were singling out American companies. The European Commission, which is the 27-nation bloc’s top antitrust enforcer, said it’s examining whether Google has breached competition rules through its use of content from web publishers and material uploaded to YouTube for AI purposes. Regulators are concerned that Google…
Shanea Leven says she learned two important lessons when building her first company, CodeSee. The first lesson was knowing the difference between what businesses need versus what sounds visionary; the second was that the fundamentals always apply, even with new technologies such as AI. “Security, compliance, reliability, quality, those things don’t just go away for enterprise applications,” she said. After CodeSee was acquired in 2024, Leven decided that she wanted to build a product that would let business owners, even those without technical backgrounds, build AI applications. She teamed up with AI researcher Sean Robinson, and last October, the two launched Empromptu, an…

MIAMI (AP) — Hundreds of Nicaraguans sang in praise of the Virgin Mary at flower-and-light-filled altars set up in church parking lots as well as in the back of vehicles on the streets of Miami to mark the Dec. 8 feast of the Immaculate Conception. The exuberant celebration called “gritería” is especially poignant this year during the ongoing crackdowns on religion in Nicaragua as well as on immigrant communities in the United States.“We’re going to do it no matter what,” said Neri Flores, who traveled from Chicago to set up an altar with his parents for the vigil Sunday night. “It’s…

But some of his school friends live as far as 70 kilometers (43 miles) away.“I don’t think the impact will be very positive for us. We don’t have a lot out here to get in contact with each other,” Riley said.“I’m not sure how…
The Department for Transport has given an update on the new pay-per-mile system which is set to hit motorists. Last month, Chancellor Rachel Reeves said she was aiming to impose the charges, which could see electric vehicle (EV) drivers paying an extra £267 per year based on current national mileage averages. The system which will also target hybrid cars is set to come into action in April 2028, and has caused concerns in the motor industry that it will put people off buying EVs. In a new interview this morning Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander doubled down on the…
