De-ice your windscreen with 1 kitchen item you already have

The UK is in the grips of a  cold snap with freezing temperatures across much of the country. Having to get up and seize the day during these frigid conditions is hard enough, but if you go to get into the car only to find your windshield frozen, it can be a real morning ruiner.

In the winter, this is a common issue across the UK, and everyone has their own method for dealing with it. One thing you should never ever do is pour hot or boiling water over your frosty car. This is because the sudden temperature change can shatter your windshield and leave you with a costly repair to deal with.

However, there is a way you can de-ice your car and warm your hands up on a freezing morning and all you need is a ziplock sandwich bag.

To use this hack, simply fill the bag up partially with warm water – not boiling. Just warm from the tap should be enough to do. Then, make sure the bag is tightly sealed and take it outside to your car.

Gently rub the bag over your windshield and watch as the ice melts away. Even better, this method works as a hand warmer too.

Just make sure to wipe up any excess water to ensure it doesn’t re-freeze and you’re good to go.

You can also make your own de-icer spray at home to help keep your car clear.

If you want to try this, all you need is water and rubbing alcohol. Combine ⅓ of a cup of water with ⅔ a cup of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray your car. The ice should melt away in minutes.

You can also use it as a preventative measure.

If temperatures are set to plummet, try spraying the de-icer over your car in the evening. When you wake up in the morning, your car should be clear.
