Dusting certain parts of your home can be tricky if they’re hard-to-reach spots. You might have tried everything from feather dusters to microfibre cloths, but Better Homes and Gardens says there’s one household item that could be of use when dusting a certain part of your home. The humble sock.
While it might sound odd, putting socks on your hands can be a useful way to get into small nooks and crannies in your home – and there’s one place it could be revolutionary for. Using this method for cleaning your blinds means you won’t look back once you give it a go. Better Homes and Gardens says: “This cleaning hack from Melissa Maker of Clean My Space uses socks as a duster. First, put an old sock on one of your hands and spritz it with water.
“Then, grip each blind panel and slide your sock-covered hand from one end to the other, removing dust from both sides of the slat.”
Socks are a cost-effective and eco-friendly way to clean your blinds.
Another similar way to clean them is to prepare a solution with equal parts white vinegar and warm water and then add a couple of drops of dish soap.
Then, place the sock onto your hand like a glove and dip your hand into the solution.
Begin wiping down the slats, dipping your sock-covered hand into the solution and wiping down each slat, starting from the top and working your way down.
This easy and gentle method is a great way to ensure dust is thoroughly cleaned from your blinds – and it’s one you’ll likely find yourself coming back to time and time again.
Experts say you should dust your home once a week, but this does not mean you have to clean every surface every week. You should ensure to keep on top of this household task in particularly dusty areas.
