Having a basic fried egg that’s cooking in butter or oil can get boring quickly if you have it time and time again. However, there is a way to jazz up your fried eggs with just one ingredient that adds bursts of flavour.
Cooking lover and nutritionist Dominique Ludwig has shared her favourite way to cook fried eggs, and it involves just using one simple ingredient – pesto. Taking to her Facebook page to share her cooking tip, Dominique said: “The pesto is an absolute game changer, and once you fry your eggs in pesto, there is no going back. Fried eggs are just boring; pesto fried eggs are the ultimate upgrade.”
The cook explained that by adding a generous tablespoon of pesto to your olive oil in the frying pan (don’t overheat), all you need to do is crack in a couple of eggs and cook.”
She said: “My top tip is to add a splash of hot water to create steam to cook the top of the eggs and prevent the pesto from sticking.
“Adding a lid helps to trap the steam, which sets the top of the eggs beautifully. Cook until the whites have set, and the yolks are still gooey.”
Dominique noted that she likes to serve her pesto fried eggs with “the most delicious grain-free flaxseed bread”.
She finished off her eggs with 100g of avocado, some cucumber, tomato, red onion and delicious bread.
The nutritionist added, “I was in a hurry, so I forgot to add anything else, but normally I would’ve added some fermented vegetables like kimchi or sauerkraut, so I forgot.
“This really was lunch in a flash, but it was also a balanced lunch that was high in fibre.”
