Black mould is a frequent issue in most bathrooms, as the moist atmosphere provides ideal conditions for its growth. It can appear on your walls, corners of ceilings, around shower seals and doors, and even in your drain. If not addressed promptly, it can lead to costly repairs. If you find that your bathroom has a slightly musty odour, even after cleaning, there’s likely a mould issue lurking in your shower.
If this is the case, a cleaning expert at Citrus Keeping has taken to the company’s TikTok account to share their “ride or die” method for banishing mould “in under three minutes”. They assured viewers that this method has “never” let them down.
Despite using natural products, the cleaner started the video off by stressing the importance of prepping the bathroom by opening every bathroom window and door, as “fresh air is a must”.
In an empty spray bottle, the cleaner said to add two cups of white vinegar, 10 drops of tea tree oil and five drops of clove oil to one cup of water.
After combining those listed ingredients, the cleaner said that you will have just made yourself “the most effective, powerful natural mould-killing spray” there is.
Without wetting or pre-washing the shower, spray the solution straight onto the affected areas.
The cleaner explained: “The vinegar is a well-known antimicrobial, then your tea tree and clove oils are there to exacerbate that potency and allow for deeper penetration.”
After 20 minutes, the cleaner rinsed the sprayed area, using cold water.
Never use hot water when dealing with mould, as it will lift the mould spore particles into the air via steam, and you’ll end up breathing in much more of it.
For the final step, the cleaner used a small amount of dish soap on a toothbrush and “lightly scrubbed” the area, as the aim of this step is to remove the remnants of the mould.
However, even after all those steps, you can find areas where the mould has stained, and this is “the only time” that the cleaner said that they “ever use bleach”.
