There is a lot of pressure on getting Christmas dinner perfect. And one of those pressures is achieving a delicious turkey without it being too dry.
Often, a turkey can become dry when it is overcooked, but you also do not want to undercook the meat. And if you don’t have a meat thermometer, it can be challenging to determine when the bird is fully cooked. But one chef has shared a “Safefood” video with one simple check you can make if you think your turkey is ready to come out of the oven.
Chef Aidan Martin shared the video to his Facebook page with the caption: “Checking to see if your turkey is cooked perfectly? Don’t panic if it’s not fully cooked, just pop it back into the oven.”
He then went on to refer to the video, which shows you the easiest way to check if your turkey is cooked.
He said: “Cut the leg apart at the thigh and check there is no pink meat, the juices run clear, and the meat is piping hot all the way through.”
If you do have a meat thermometer, you can use it to check that the temperature of the meat is correct.
It is advised you use it in the same place, between the thigh and main crown of the turkey, as this is the thickest part of the bird and will take the longest to cook.
Chef Aidan said: “You can also use a meat thermometer in the same place, the gauge should reach 75°C immediately.”
