Drying clothes indoors can be a challenge, especially in humid or cold weather. Using a dehumidifier is an efficient and energy-saving way to dry laundry faster, while preventing mould and musty odours. It’s no secret that I love these appliances and have tried many over the last few years. By reducing humidity in the room, a dehumidifier enhances air circulation around your clothes, keeping them soft, fresh, and dry without relying on a dryer.

Whether you’re air-drying clothes indoors, dealing with small spaces, or wanting to protect delicate fabrics from harsh drying conditions, a dehumidifier is a practical solution. I recently tried Ebac’s 4650 device, which was voted best dehumidifier of 2025 by The Guardian.

Arriving complete with a five-year warranty, this particular dehumidifier is the latest technology from the company, tackling and preventing condensation, damp and mould.

While Ebac have a few to choose from, this model is perfect for homes with up to four bedrooms, and works great in my home.

Its Smart Control monitors the moisture levels in your home and controls the device to prevent damp and condensation.

Since using it nearly every day, I’ve had no window condensation problems at all, which is common for my home during the winter months.

However, I was more interested in the device to use to dry my laundry. Although I do have a tumble dryer and tend to use it for bulkier items that take a long time to dry, I dislike the idea of increasing my energy bill with it.

This is where a dehumidifier comes in perfectly, and this Ebac one has a specific laundry mode. My washing dried within just two hours of use in a small room with the door shut and a window very slightly ajar.

This was extremely impressive, and with an estimated daily running cost of just 45p, it is definitely the most affordable option.

It’s also remarkably quiet, and significantly quieter than some other dehumidifiers I’ve tried.

Featuring smart app connectivity, the 4650 allows users to change the operating mode from their device too, as well as view and set their room’s preferred humidity level.

Although I haven’t benefited too much from this feature since I work from home, it can be handy if you need to leave home and still want your device on.

One area I’ve often struggled with when it comes to dehumidifiers is the water tank. From being too small or hard to remove, I absolutely hate emptying them.

However, this fully enclosed water container ensures no spillage, and it’s super easy to empty. It’s also easily movable, thanks to a handle on the back, and isn’t too heavy. It’s definitely one of the best ones I’ve tried.

It’s currently on sale for £230.30, reduced from £329, so although it’s an investment, it’s much cheaper than dealing with mould and damp issues. It’s also one of the more expensive dehumidifiers on the market, but totally worth it in my opinion.

I’ve also tried a few other dehumidifiers, including an affordable one from Argos as well as a couple from Meaco.

Meaco’s MeacoDry Arete One 12L Dehumidifier & Air Purifier remains one of my favourite devices ever, and I’ve had it for over two years now. It’s currently available for £149.98, reduced from £179.99.

The Challenge 12L Dehumidifier from Argos was also great, and at just £140, it’s no wonder it has 460 raving reviews.
