After spending weeks in a festive bubble of tinsel and baubles, January can feel like an ideal time for a refresh around the home. If you don’t want to spend a fortune but are keen to give some areas an update, scouring the post-Christmas sales for new accessories can be the perfect option. One item that’s caught our eye is this Helix table lamp from Marks & Spencer, which is now half price at £29.50, down from £59.
The base has an interesting shape thanks to its textured resin twisted column, and I think the matte finish makes it look more expensive than it is. Sitting on top it has a delicate flower-shaped shade, which adds a touch of elegance. And because it’s not overly bold, it shouldn’t clash with other décor and could fit anywhere from contemporary schemes to more traditional rooms.
It’s quite tall, standing at 59cm tall and 35cm wide, and according to one customer is perfect for the side table. They wrote: “Very good size for a table lamp. Colour goes well with my room decor. Good price.” Another user penned: “I’m so impressed with M&S lighting range this season I bought 4 this year. This particularly one goes with my navy/brown themed guess room perfectly.” And a third person added: “I love this lamp! Unique, well made, gorgeous shade and stand, excellent value.”
There aren’t any negative reviews for the lamp but the lampshade might not be to everyone’s taste. However, it could easily be switched for something else.
Another item I love is this William Morris At Home velvet bird fringed cushion, which is £26, down from £52. The distinctive style by the Walthamstow designers looks elegant and it has contrasting reverse fabric, meaning you can flip it for a slightly different look depending on how you’re styling your sofa, armchair or bed.
This particular cushion doesn’t have any reviews yet but there is a similar style, also by William Morris at Home available at Dunelm. The cover is made from the polyester velvet and comes in three different sizes but without the padding included. One user wrote: “This is a very well made cushion cover from the William Morris collection, material is wonderfully high quality and the pattern has been placed accurately. There is a very good quality zip fastening also.”
Another item in the M&S sale (to be honest, there are loads) is this Reactive serving bowl, which is now £10 down from £20. One thing that Christmas showed me is that I don’t have enough serving bowls for dinner sides or things like crisps and nibbles, and I love this stoneware item. It has a distinctive glaze finish that creates a unique pattern, which apparently makes each piece subtly different, so it feels really special.
