Some UK homes are due a hefty refund, with Sky confirming that one of its latest products is no longer being supported. Sky Live first launched all the way back in 2023 with this mini accessory clipping onto the firm’s Glass TVs and offering features such as games, video calls and even fully interactive fitness sessions. This neat device even included the ability to watch live telly and sporting events with friends and family – via the in-built camera – even if they lived on the other side of the country.
During its original launch, Sky Live was hailed as a “clever entertainment device that will transform the way you use your TV”.
Despite featuring some clever technology, it seems customers simply didn’t want to pay the £6 per month subscription fee to use it.
From today, Sky Live will no longer work with the firm, stating that those who own it can return it via a prepaid envelope or take it for recycling.
“We understand this news may be disappointing to people who have enjoyed using Sky Live, and we’re sorry about that,” Sky said in a community post.
Those who purchased this interactive camera will now receive a refund of up to £290, with the money being automatically credited back to their accounts.
“Sky Live customers will be entitled to a refund for the value that they have paid towards their Sky Live device, this will automatically be sent to the direct debit on their Sky Account,” Sky added.
Although the Sky Live service has now officially closed, there are some features that will live on. The telly firm says it will still offer games such as the recently released Who Wants To Be A Millionaire title, but these won’t be part of an extra subscription plan.
Explaining more, a Sky spokesperson said: “Innovation has always been at the heart of Sky. This year we’ve expanded our Sky Glass range to offer more choice, launched the UK’s fastest broadband speeds from any major provider, and continued to invest in making the TV experience even better.
“Sky Live was part of that journey, and we’re proud of the ambition behind it. It’s given us valuable learnings that are helping to shape the future of our products. The most popular feature was gaming, which is why we’ve continued to bring even more games to Sky Glass and Sky Stream, with something for everyone in the family, including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
“We’re focusing our investment where it matters most to customers — faster, simpler products, unbeatable content and brilliant service. Customers who purchased Sky Live will be refunded.”
