Supermarkets have been forced to take items off their shelves this week as a number of serious  food recalls have been issued. The likes of Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury’s have had to take action as “do not eat” warnings have been shared with customers.

A variety of products have been affected, including Christmas items. There have been a number of undeclared ingredients in some produce, which can make them unsafe to eat for anyone with allergies. According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), some of these affected products could pose a serious “health risk”.

Perfect Christmas Mozzarella Sticks in Blankets

Aldi has recalled its Christmas food item as it contains egg, which is not mentioned on the label. The supermarket said: “As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Perfect Christmas Mozzarella Sticks in Blankets because the product is labelled incorrectly and contains an undeclared allergen (egg).

“Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.” The product affected by the recall is from the Perfect Christmas brand and comes in the 278g packaging.  Its use by date is December 15, 2025, and the barcode is 4069365328743.

Grape Tree dark chocolate and caramel coated raisins

Health store chain Grape Tree recalled two products this week – Caramel Flavour Coated Raisins and Easy Melt Couverture Dark Chocolate 55%. They were both pulled due to undeclared ingredients, which means they pose a risk to people with allergens.

The Caramel Flavour Coated Raisins contain peanuts which is not mentioned on the label. It refers to products with a batch code 252918 and best before date November 2026.

Easy Melt Couverture Dark Chocolate 55% contains milk which is not mentioned on the label. The warning is for batch code 241796 and best before October 2026.

Vault City Brewing Mince Pie Pastry Sour (beer)

Vault City Brewing’s Mince Pie Pastry Sour beer has been recalled from customers because it contains milk, which is not mentioned on the label. The product can pose a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The alert is for Vault City Brewing’s 440ml can with a batch code G840. It will have a best before date of November, 18 2027. Vault City’s beers are stocked in pubs and bars up and down the UK, as well as in supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Disaronno Originale

The Food Standards Agency has urged anyone with 700ml bottles of Disaronno Originale to return the product and not drink it due to small pieces of glass being found. “Illva Saronno S.P.A is recalling Disaronno Originale because of the possible presence of small pieces of glass within some bottles of product, which could make it unsafe to drink,” the FSA said.

They explained that the possible presence of glass is due to an “anomaly on a bottling line”. Seven batches were identified as possibly contamined. Their codes are: 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442 and 25444.

Calbee Hot & Spicy Chips and Calbee Pizza Chips

Two flavours of Calbee crisps have been recalled by the manufacturer due to ingredients not being declared. The Calbee Hot & Spicy Chips contain mustard and the Calbee Pizza Chips contain celery, making them a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to each of those ingredients.

The FSA said: “If you have bought the above products and have an allergy to mustard or celery, do not eat them. Instead return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund. For further details, please contact Calbee’s customer care team on 03306600015 or consumercare@calbee.co.uk.”

The recall over Calbee Hot & Spicy Chips refers to both the 55g sized bag and 105g. It includes products will all best before dates up to and including June 5, 2026. Tesco and Lidl both warned their customers about the product recall and again urged people not to eat them.

Aubergine Katsu Bao Buns

This week, Tesco issued a recall over their popular party food item, Aubergine Katsu Bao Buns, due to a “possible health risk”. They were found to contain milk not mentioned on the label, which could trigger symptoms in anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The recall applies to Tesco 6 Aubergine Katsu Bao Buns sole in a 258g pack with use by dates up to and including December 13.

A notice issued by Tesco said: “If you have purchased the affected date code of the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, please return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required.”
