Tesco, Lidl and more urgently recall 3 everyday foods this week

Several major UK supermarkets, including Tesco and Lidl, have issued urgent recalls on three everyday food items this week, warning customers not to eat them. The recalls were announced after safety concerns were identified that could pose health risks to some consumers. One important food product is said to have a toxin called cereulide, to which parents are warned not to give their babies.

The Food Standards Agency UK (FSA) are urging shoppers to check their cupboards and fridges for the affected products. Those who have bought these items are warned “not to eat” and are advised to return the products to stores for a full refund. Find out what products have been recalled this week below.

Tesco recalls various pâtés

Tesco is recalling three pâté products after they were found to be unsafe due to incorrect use-by date labelling, which could pose a microbiological risk if eaten. The affected products are Tesco Coarse Farmhouse Pâté, Coarse Ardennes Pâté, and Smooth Chicken Liver Pâté.

The packages that are marked with a use-by date of January 5 are not to be eaten. Customers are advised not to “consume” and to return the items to their store for a full refund.

Lidl GB recalls Deluxe Red Cabbage with Apple, Dried Cranberries & Spices

Lidl has recalled its Deluxe Red Cabbage with Apple, Dried Cranberry and Spices after the Food Standards Agency issued an alert on January 6. The product contains milk, but the allergen is not highlighted in bold on the label, posing a risk to those with milk allergies.

Lidl has apologised for the error and confirmed that no other products are affected. The company has advised customers to return the item to the store from which it was bought for a full refund.

Nestlé recalls several SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula

Nestlé has recalled several SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula because they may contain a serious toxin.

A spokesperson for  Nestlé said: “The safety and well-being of babies is our absolute priority. As a precautionary measure, Nestlé is voluntarily recalling specific batches of its SMA infant formula and follow-on formula.

“This is due to the potential presence of cereulide in the batches concerned. Batch codes can be found on the base of the tin or box for powdered formulas or the base of the outer box and on the side/top of the container for ready-to-feed formulas.”

Cereulide is a toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus and is highly heat-resistant, meaning it is not destroyed by cooking, boiling water or preparing infant milk. If ingested, it can cause a rapid onset of illness. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.

If you have purchased one of these batches, take a photo of the product and the batch code and share it via  https://www.nestle.co.uk/en-gb/getintouch or call the careline on 0800 0 81 81 80 (UK) 1800 931 832 (Ireland.
